An isolated population does occur in Qld above 1000m, but these snakes are definitely not tropical. They feed on all manner of vertebrate animals, including fish and birds, as these snakes are capable climbers and swimmers.Unfortunately, the snakes in this article appear dead or nearly so.. I have many years experience as a herpetologist and have had a lot of dealings with Notechis scutatus in the wild. Tiger snakes are venomous, not poisonous- they are restricted to the temperate areas of southern Australia (as opposed to the tropics as mentioned in this article).
