Umm Mayflies/Shadflies, for the most part live alot longer then your saying. Really all depends on the subspeices/variety. The ones around here can last for a week at least, but are the species that live in/around the lake.

"Mayflies are insects which belong to the Order Ephemeroptera (from the Greek ephemeros = "short-lived", pteron = "wing", referring to the short life span of adults). They have been placed into an ancient group of insects termed the Palaeoptera, which also contains dragonflies and damselflies. They are aquatic insects whose immature stage (called naiad or, colloquially, nymph) usually lasts one year in freshwater. The adults are short-lived, from a few minutes to a few days "
*Taken from the wiki entry. Anyways figured I'd add that in for ya's!! Also AMAZING Site, Kids an I both love it!!

As far as the insects go...why are not the larval or nymph stages added to their life spans? Same animal, just different stages, so it should count as one lifespan

I thought 5 years is bad enough to live life that short but 24 hours? It's like no use to live at all. Thanks God these animals don't speak and don't have emotions or else, the planet earth will be filled with tears of remorse. LOL. Anyways, I'm following your blog. Your posts are great. Keep it up.
